What an incredible series of Multiplier Events across the project partner countries—Portugal, Slovenia, Italy, Romania, and Finland—celebrating the ERASMUS+ project DO IT YOURSELF!

These events were filled with enthusiasm, innovation, and inspiring conversations, bringing together people passionate about sustainable development and community impact.

From insightful presentations to engaging hands-on activities, participants experienced the power of collaboration and creativity firsthand. The common program across all events included:

Final Meeting

The final meeting of the ERASMUS+ DO IT YOURSELF project, project 2021-1-FI01-KA220-SCH-000034324, took place from 11 to 13 June 2024.

The three partners from Portugal: the Brejoeira School Parents’ Association, Eagle Intuition and TV Almada, were the hosts.

This collaboration was carried out in partnership with five European countries: Portugal, Finland, Slovenia, Romania and Italy. The concerns were common, but the sharing of experiences enriched each of the participants, thus improving their educational practices. In an increasingly digital age, new information technologies play a crucial role in the school context and have numerous benefits for teaching and learning. They facilitate access to a wide range of educational resources, allowing students and teachers to explore up-to-date, dynamic and diverse content. In addition, these technologies promote the personalisation of teaching, adapting to the individual needs of each student.

Meeting in Oradea – Romania

The ERASMUS+ DO IT YOURSELF project meeting (code 2021-1-FI01-KA220-SCH-000034324) was a collaborative effort that took place in Romania on January 8 and 9, 2024. This project brought together educators and project participants from five European countries: Portugal, Finland, Slovenia, Romania, and Italy. The primary objective of the meeting was to share experiences and enhance the educational practices of the attendees, with a focus on the crucial role of information technologies in education.

During the meeting, the following points were discussed:

Innovative teaching methods: Implementing digital technologies in the curriculum and developing new interactive teaching methods.
Open Educational Resources: Creating and using educational resources that are freely accessible to support lifelong learning.
Personalizing learning: Adapting teaching materials and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
International collaboration: Improving communication and cooperation between educational institutions in the participating countries to promote best practices and innovation in education.

The meeting was an excellent opportunity for participants to share ideas, learn from each other, and develop new strategies to enhance education through the use of information technologies. As a result, the meeting successfully fostered a spirit of international collaboration, promoted the use of innovative teaching methods, and underscored the importance of open educational resources and personalized learning in our educational systems.

Learning Teaching Training Activity in Finland

Within the ERASMUS+ project Do It Yourself the 2nd training took place in Kittilä, Finland from 16. – 18. of January 2023 hosted by the Finnish Coordinator, The Municipality of Kittilä.

The aim of this activity was to show the innovative methods and approaches of teaching and learning by using iPads in education.

During the training course the participants were taught how to set up a functional environment for a large number of iPads. The example was just driven out from the Municipality of Kittilä where more than 400 elementary school students are using iPads as 1:1 method. It means that every elementary school student uses an iPad as it would be his / her’s own. Although the iPads are stored at schools and will only be taken home with an extra permission.

Also, the participants were taught how to use Apple School Manager to control student groups and to use the Apple Volume Purhasing Program. When using a large number of digital devices, it is essential to be able to purchase applications to a large student group when necessary. It is also crucial when using Apple Schoolwork. That was certified during the Covid -19 distance teaching period.

The course also included a Mobile Device Management session where the participants were taught how to set up a MDM service. The MDM software allows the administrator to set up certain policies to use the devices as well as to deploy applications to a student group when necessary. It is also possible to lock the devices if they are stolen or otherwise misused.
During the 3 days partners visited different school levels of Kittilä from elementary school to the gymnasium. The participants got a good vision out of the Finnish school system including the school lunch which is unique in the whole world.

During the training course the participants were able to be familiar with the local culture of course. It was a great moment to visit a local painter’s museum. The painter is also appreciated internationally. The Reidar Särestöniemi art museum consists works of art by the artist which can be seen in the artists’s gallery and studio. The main exhibition in the Gallery is selected according to a theme, and changed once a year. The Studio building hosts three exhibition annually, bringing forth earlier works and different techniques used by the artist.

The partners were also be able to get familiar with the Finnish snow construction field in Lainio SnowVillage which is one of the largest snow castles in the world. Each year, around 20 million kilos of snow and 350 000 kilos of crystal clear natural ice are used to build the spectacular SnowVillage which changes in shape, size and design to amaze visitors year after year.

The Sami culture was not forgotten. The partners visited the Saamen Kammi where they listened Niiles-Jouni’s lyrics of several yoiks and other performances. The unique Sámi yoik has gradually spread to all parts of the world.

The training was useful and informative, an opportunity for partners to experience of using iPads in education that they will be able to transfer and implement in their teaching practice.

Learning Teaching Training Activity in Slovenia

Within the ERASMUS+ project Do It Yourself the 1st training took place in Velenje from 17. – 19. of October 2022 hosted by Slovenian partner Andragoški zavod Ljudska univerza Velenje.

The aim of this activity was to show the innovative methods and approaches of teaching AZ Ljudska univerza Velenje is using in everyday classes with their students.

The idea was to see the Pattern city which is an ecosystem for education, experimentation, prototyping and innovation. This unique, interactive environment is focused on providing interdisciplinary content with learning-by-doing and playful learning methodologies but since they are doing new constellation with new theme, it is currently closed for visitors. It will be opened in January, and therefore partners agreed that they will meet on ZOOM that month and see the theory in virtually environment.

During the 3 days partners visited some places with examples of use of digital tools in education. They went to Noordung Centre, where they were welcomed by Vita – first social humanoid robot created in human shape. She was friendly and talkative, she danced, listened and invited partners to visit the Noordung centre. She made our visit extra fun and interactive. Next on the list was the Noordung’s exhibitions (The Artistic Science of Cosmology, Images of Earth, On the Cosmic Horizons, etc.), where they were able to gain new knowledge with use of interactive technologies.

After that partner went to Tehnopark Celje, where they were able to use theoretical knowledge in practice. The real potential of any external learning is to learn from real practical examples that help students understand the content of school material.

Last day, partners went to Upper Savinja Valley to visit First smart classroom on the countryside and Muzej flosarstva (Rafting museum).

The smart classroom is located in the former library in primary school Ljubno ob Savinji. There are no tables or chairs in it, but five stations with different tasks or problems. It is intended for a different way of learning about traffic, learning about green technologies, solving the problem of waste and to train tourist ambassadors. At the waste station, the pupils first learn something new on the screens, then they answer questions. For each correct answer, they get new instruction for programming the robot. If they answer everything correctly and follow the programming instructions correctly, the robot arm will correctly sort the waste.

The interactive rafting collection is designed so that visitors can explore the topic on their own and move freely around the space – the guide only tells a few basic clues about rafting in Ljubno. Meanwhile, the collection of Flower Sunday flowers is set up as a classic exhibition.

The training was very productive and efficient, an opportunity for partners to experience new methods and approaches that they will be able to transfer and implement in their teaching practice.

Kickoff meeting of the ERASMUS+ project DO IT YOURSELF

From 8 to 10 March 2022, was held the kickoff meeting of the ERASMUS+ project DO IT YOURSELF, project 2021-1-FI01-KA220-SCH-000034324.

The three partners from Portugal: The Parents Association of Brejoeira School, Eagle Intuition and TV Almada, were the hosts.

All the partners embraced this project with the aim of enriching the sharing of experiences in order to improve good educational practices. This collaboration was done in partnership with five European countries: Portugal, Finland, Slovenia, Romania and Italy, with common concerns, leading to a singular theme DO IT YOURSELF – A NEW APPROACH TO IMPLEMENT DIGITAL. Thus, in an increasingly digital age, the use of new information and communication technologies in the school context is a tool that promotes motivation and facilitates learning.

During the visit to Escola Básica da Brejoeira, was presented with the way how the Portuguese teachers work in the classroom with the technologies. There was the opportunity to visit several classrooms of the 1st cycle, where 315 students and 100 students from the pre-school, have classes daily.

There was also a special welcome visit host by the President of local municipality of Azeitão, Sónia Paulo.

During this first meeting, there was also an opportunity to get to know Portugal better, a country rich in culture, with stories and natural beauty. Taking advantage of this visit, we got to know the gastronomy and culture of our region of Azeitão.
